So they were making mushroom sauce on Masterchef the other night, and I had to pick my tongue up off the floor! Last night I decided I had to have a big slab of rump drowned in mushroom sauce. I scoured my cookbooks for a yummy recipe.
I found The Australian Women’s Weekly, New Cookbook from 1978! It has a great Mushroom sauce recipe I tried out last night, you can’t beat the classics! Yum! Give it a try.
Creamy Mushroom Sauce
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 rashers bacon 1 chicken stock cube
1 clove garlic salt, pepper
125g mushrooms 1/4 cup cream
1 1/2 tablespoons flour 1 egg
1 cup water 4 spring onions
1/2 cup dry white wine
Heat butter in pan, add chopped bacon, crushed garlic and sliced mushrooms. Saute until bacon is crisp.
Add flour and stir until golden brown.
Gradually add water and wine, stir until sauce boils and thickens.
Reduce heat, add Worcestershire sauce, crumbled stock cube, salt and pepper, simmer for a further 3 minutes.
Add combined cream and lightly beaten egg and chopped spring onions.
Stir over a low heat until the sauce thickens and is heated through.
Drizzle over your favourite steak!
